Sparxius
Hello folks and welcome to the Painting Contract for August 2023. If you don't know the rules they are: Each month you post an amount of models that you agree to try to paint/build/convert/sculpt. This can be terrain or models for Age Of Sigmar, Warcry, Blood Bowl, Blitz Bowl, Dungeon Bowl, Warhammer Underworlds, Warhammer Quest, Gorechosen, or HeroQuest On the 28th of the month the contract closes and you can then post your progress images so that they can be critiqued, shared and boasted about. It is a great way to get involved in the community and to get inspiration. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone share their progress! Enjoy! @Mohojoe & @TheOtherJosh& special thanks to @Kramer and @Sparxius

Gitzdee
Got a new goal this month. Someone gave me some incomplete deffkoptas i had to fix to the best of my ability. Didnt want to put that much effort into fixing them though as time is a rare resource. They were half painted so i sprayed over them lightly with black primer and started painting the first layers today. So i want to try and see if i can finish these this month. Also want to try and start painting the Kurnoth Hunters i build last month if u have some spare time. Flippy
For August I plan to finish a unit of 10 Skinks, then paint 5 Saurus Warriors and the Realmshaper Engine. Luckily, all of this stuff is already assembled & primed and I've already made some good progress with the Skinks.

RandyRyan
I kind of fell off the painting wagon the last few months… my goal is to finish off the 5 Berzerkers I pledged back in May or whenever it was 🥵 and Cado Ezechiar, everyone’s favourite non-sparkly emo vampire!

Painbringer
This month, I want to finish painting my Daemon Prince for 40K and paint one unit of Bloodcrushers. The Daemon Prince is mostly done, but there’s a lot of missing/undefined details - here’s the current state: I like the new Daemon Prince model so much that I have three of them Two are WH40K-specific, but the third one has been built with AoS in mind. Neil Arthur Hotep
Working on terrain again. This time, domicil shells. You might like this one, @Twisted Firaun I am painting these buildings in the style of Moorish revival architecture: The flat roofs, arched doors and windows seem like a good fit. Plus, it's a little more eye catching than simple grey or white. Overall, the domicile shells are fun kits, but the scaffolding is kind of a chore to paint. I hope we get the completed buildings from the CoS battletome, too. Edited August 7, 2023 by Neil Arthur Hotep 1

I also like the differtent feel to it then other terrains. Good work keep it up!

Great work!! I also like the differtent feel to it then other terrains. Good work keep it up! Thanks! I am happy you picked up on the different feel between the domicile shell and other terrain pieces because that is something I wanted to express as part of the history of the settlement I am building. My idea is that in this place, there are buildings from three different time periodes. The oldest are ruins from thr age of myth, which are characterized by their astrological markings. Then, there are the traditional mediveal buildings, which in my mind represent a small freeguild and collegiate arcane base which was used as a location from which to study these more ancient ruins for their magical significance. And finally, thr newest type of buildings are the prefabricated dawnbringer houses and aqualith, which were constructed after the site was found to be important enough to send a Dawnbringer Crusade to it. I especially like how the guardian idol in the first picture can work as a bridge between the age of myth ruins and dawner buildings, because it is a prefab structure that uses an old astrological ruin as support. 4

Flippy
Still WIP, but I want to praise GW for their design of Seraphon. You can get really far with a relatively big brush and just contrasts, washes and drybrushing - and I love that. 2
Neil Arthur Hotep
I made some desert scatter terrain by cutting apart a fake cactus and succulent: They look pretty good as tabletop scale plants. Would recommend. However, they were kinda hard to paint. Both plants came with a kind of flocking, which gives them extra texture but makes paint interact with them weirdly. I had a very hard time getting ink washes to penetrate the flock for some reason, but in the end dry brushing worked pretty well.
Gitzdee
Dont think i will be able to finish these soon, painting yellow is taking a bit longer then expected. But heres some progress. I think ill change the yellow helmets to another colour to make them stand out a bit more but not sure what colour to pick. 1

But heres some progress. I think ill change the yellow helmets to another colour to make them stand out a bit more but not sure what colour to pick. I used to really struggle painting yellow, now it's one of the easiest colours for me: The only thing you need to do is pre-shade in browns and whites. Basically, just establish your shadows in brown, highlights in (off-)white. Such as with a brown wash over white. Then, just a thin coat of yellow paint should do it, and be appropriately shaded, too. Trying to paint yellow over black is hard, because yellow is so transparent. Plus, black primer tends to not actually be black, but rather a very dark blue. This interacts with the transparent yellow and results in green-tinted shadows. That's the reasoning behind using dark brown as a shadow colour for yellow: It is a warm pigment that helps achieve a good effect when painted over in yellow and does not result in any weird colour changes.
