Random question, but this feels like it could be the place for it now, is WD500 worth it?

I stopped buying WD regularly some time ago. Every time I have picked up the odd issue I've generally been a bit disappointed and regretted it. One thing that has surprised me the last few times has been the paper quality, it feels really poor & grainy compared to how I rememberer it from when I was younger, especially for the cost.

All that being said I was tempted by WD500. Should I bother?

Sounds like you wanna start a kitbash project.

How about putting Blissbarb archer bodies on the snake parts?

Trying to convert and Assemble blissbarb archers would be like trying to stack water.

I never want to build those models again.

and make an faction that the appeal.

The average man in a fantasy universe wouldn't just be humans but also includes the elves, dwarfs and {insert other fantasy races} so we have a faction who are united under a banner of cooperation. It is also pretty unique in other wargames & some fantasies, usually it just the Elf faction, the orc faction, {insert era/nationality} human faction the other {insert different era/nationality} human faction but with CoS it you typical D&D party x10 all together to face off against the eldritch, the undead, the demonic, the savage ect ect in a post apocalypse universe

It also help that there so many different side of CoS that brim with potential: The 15th century army, the steampunk corporations w/ warmachines, the dwarfs remnants, the pirate elves, the zealous fanatics, the wizards, the 16th century FBI it bound to catch someone's interest

The Dark Elf units and dwarves will disappear over time until they are completely gone is my estimation.

I reckon that the Elves and dwarves will probably be incorporated in minor ways to the army like crew on a artillery piece, an hero, a specialist unit like elf rangers or a dwarf artillery piece.

But tbf I could be completely wrong and GW will release a brand new dwarf mini wave as an expansion for COS ala Darkoath box style out of the blue.

I had the same thought and finally went for it. In the end, it was just because it is chunkier. It is the only WD I have, and in the worst case scenario I think I will be able to sell it.

What about keeping Aelves but losing the DE theming? I have the feeling something like the old HE or WE fit better than the DE for CoS. If we keep them as Rangers and Magers fillers. Maybe the only role that I could see DE fitting is the privateers.

I've dipped in and out of buying it for decades now. Mainly out, I guess. I did go out and buy no.500 because I assumed (correctly) that there'd be a fair amount of history and nostalgia.

The thing that puts me off buying more often is that I have virtually zero interest in 40k, and it feels like well over half of any one issue tends to be dedicated to that. Hard to justify the price when there's so much dead wood (to me).

Yeah, the paper isn't as glossy as the old days... I assume that's something to do with recycling or other greenie concerns.

Tangential tale time... I actually won a White Dwarf competition back in the early 00s, got my name in print and everything. The prize was a year's free subscription. They kept sending it to me for free for about four years!

Hah, so true. They are stubborn little suckers. The only models that rival them in terms of assembly are the Slickblade Seekers.

I could see that happening, although on the dwarfem side, I’m somewhat amazed that they haven’t been any announcement of them going to fet removed.

maybe gw has some other plans,

maybe those units are meant to be shared between the two systems.

Personally I don’t know.

as for the dark elve stuff.

my hopes still lies with them becoming part of dok again, but I don’t really know the outcome.

maybe they’ll stay maybe they’ll become a part of the old world at some point.

Yeah, I used to love White Dwarf so much ten years ago. Absolutely devoured it. Now, I think it is a mixed bag. Sometimes it sparkles (Dan Harden). Often it is just dead dull. So far I’m finding White Dwarf 500 pretty good. Looking forward to reading the huge battle report.

Bets on seeing Gotrek's profile today in the FS Faction Focus?

I think we will see him.

If they're going to show Gotrek at some point they'll show him with Fyreslayers.

Like how Kragnos showed up in a destruction article.

You should've played the lottery on that day!

I think it will almost be confirmation on whether he is going legends or not.

I just had the thought, that going legends might be benefical for the game balance. Especially considering the ally rules abuse with him.

And now i am intersted in how allies are in 4th. The rules might have changed. Or allies are a thing of the past.

Agreed. Like ogres, FS don't have a named hero with a unique model, though I believe they have one or two that utilize one of the "generic" models. If Gotrek doesn't go into Legends, this is the best place to preview him at this point.

No Gotrek. So maybe he is part of Legends indeed.

Are we sure they are going to drop Gotrek (I got no clue)? I mean he's one of the most famous characters in Warhammer after all, so this feels a bit like they'd shoot themselves into their feet.

Maybe they peg it to one faction.
