What is Age of Sigmar?

For those who aren't aware and may have gotten to this topic through a search engine link, this may help you. Age of Sigmar is a tabletop wargame made by Games Workshop. It is set in the Mortal Realms, which are a set of near infinite magical realms which are connected via Realmgates. It is currently in the 4th edition of the game and sometimes known as AOS4.

Who are the Cities of Sigmar?

Also known as Free Cities, the Cities of Sigmar are rare bastions of civilisation amidst the merciless expanse of the Mortal Realms, cosmopolitan settlements sheltering Humans, Aelves, Duardin and more behind their walls. There are myriad dangers that threaten the Cities of Sigmar and rarely are they idle. With the Stormcast Eternals too few in number to protect every settlement, it inevitably falls to the ordinary men and women of the Free Cities to defend their homes, their families and way of life. With faith, steel and copious amounts of black powder, the people of the Free Cities are often the first and last line of defence against overwhelming horrors.

Shieldwalls of heavily armoured Duardin protect gunlines of Human Fusiliers, their officers barking orders from atop Ogors as Battlemages sling magics overhead, while swift Aelves deftly weave amongst the enemy's flanks even as their front ranks are devastated by Ironweld cannonfire. The diversity of the Cities of Sigmar allows them to call upon varied units and strategies to win the day.

Sometimes the leaders of a Free City will muster a Dawnbringer Crusade, a military campaign sent out beyond the borders of Sigmar's domain to wrestle back a small piece of the Realms from the forces of Death, Destruction and Chaos. If it survives, the Crusade will establish a new settlement that the 'Dawners' hope will stand for generations to come and eventually grow to become another Free City - one more tiny, flickering light in the dark.

Spearhead

Spearhead is a way of playing Age of Sigmar using the Spearhead box sets. It is a way of playing the game, which is easy to pick up and get into. The rules for Spearhead can be found in the core rules but the quick start/reference information can be found here - https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/jGK80Jjjq4u0PaSR.pdf

Your first 1000 points

Here is a sample army list for the Cities of Sigmar. It is 1000 points and uses the Spearhead box. The aim is to buy as few kits as possible with this list and it is no way classed as the best list. To make this list you will need a Cities of Sigmar Spearhead box, a Freeguild Marsh and Relic Envoy box and a Steam Tank box. You can tweak and change the list however you want.

Cities of Sigmar
1000/1000pts

Freeguild Cavalier-Marshal (170) [GENERAL]
- 5 x Freeguild Cavaliers (170)
- 1 x Steam Tank (300)

Freeguild Marshal and Relic Envoy (130)

Any questions, additional thoughts or ideas for the starter list, please add them below. If you want to discuss any tactics, advice or ideas after your first 1000 points, start a new topic in this part of the forum.
