Since I am normally a grouch, decided to make a positive topic. In any order what's your favourite Black Library books released in 2019? I will start. Also since this is well...an AOS forum I do think it would be fair to at least have an AOS book on the list. Thinking of doing a topic like this near the end of every year.

So starting out with nighthaunt, as you lot know. Threw together a basic list, I know reaper boys are the better option but the Bladeghiest look too pretty to me. Planning to build into the chainguard battalion, upping my spirit host to 9 and getting 10-15 bladeghiest. I also have a question, should I throw a beacon onto the Guardian of souls, or should I drop the tome for the Knight of shrouds and give the Guardian the beacon for now?

But is the use of other Marked Slaves to Darkness Units no option? There is still a lot of different units accessible, althrough none of the new ones beside LoC on Karkadrak. You are still able to utilize cultists as Allies, which is even a quite good approach concidering their low point costs! Same applies for Llamacatsphinx and the Crusher! And as Marked units from the "classical" range are not counted towards the Ally Limit, having 200 pts in 1k games allows you one Catsphinx and one unit of Cultists.
No worries, I was just really frustrated so I came off quite strong. I'm switching mainly because I want to be positive lol, hate moaning really. The chaps in the nighthaunt thread are pretty great.

Yup, thats basically the crux of it. I also do apologise for whining but it is frustrating for me after years of waiting we get a daemon book no one likes playing against, while gw release new chaos mortals. We can't even use the new monsters.

Well its your opinion, just as I have mine. I am more annoyed at GW really. There is not much of slaanesh there to begin with unless you like to make your opponent hate the game.

I like converting as well but why must we have to drop tons of money just to make a basic troop choice match the army? Anyway, thats enough whining from me, I'm going to play nighthaunt.

Yup, also considering the added position that you have the other gods sitting around a fire with mortal heroes, beastmen and troops while you largely have nothing. lets not forget slaves to darkness don't really match the aesthetic of the army. And GW axed our heroes from the book.
Yeah I am dissappointed that I am stuck with a busted glorified daemon book after years of waiting for an update. Releasing new chaos mortals is like twisting the knife in for me.

Splintered Fang are great for Sacrifices within the Cabalites as they regenerate a model each hero phase. Also they are a nice bodyguard to a sorcerer due to their poison weapons.
Corvus are fast and cheap and can fly. Therefore they are great to go for some objective quick. Especially in a Ravagers list, which allows them to spawn somewhere hidden on the board edge.
Unmade can be a real danger as they have a profile worth of a hero and also that -1 bravery, which can be stacked quite high with Archaon, Catshpinx and Knights.
Iron Warriors Thingies are tanky with a 4+ save (that can be rerolled if I remember correctly?) and therefore are good for holding some backfield objectives without to have to fear shooting too much.
The list goes on. Each Cultist Unit is specialised, but therefore actually good at a certain task. Also, neat sculpts and as they are not battleline, noone should argue that gw want´s to force sales by powercreep.
As a slaanesh player, was really counting on cultists being able to be marked. Well, guess I will wait three years or more until GW gets around to making us some mortals since we are the only god dedicated faction that lacks it. I will just play nighthaunt instead. With this new book the divide between the god dedicated books and slaves got larger.

So I divided soul wars with a mate, bit the bullet on nighthaunt, since I have been eyeing them for a long time. And I got the battletome.
Do you wonderful ghosts have any recommendations on what units I should grab next? All the warscrolls seem pretty interesting even if they are not the best army.
Lady Olynder is going to be a must at some point for me though, her model.😍

Without counting in Battalions and Allegiance Abilities no Warscroll looks really strong apart from the gaunt summoner.
I am a bit confused especially about the weapon damag values : The best weapon overall always seems to be the ensorcelled weapon with 3+,3+,-1,1 all the other weapon options lose too many attacks, hit too badly and or are conditional. Every 2+ dmg weapon loses at least one rend (most are rend zero) - surprising especially since it seems fine for Orcs to be 2+,2+,-1, +1 damage for entire hordes...So far the Warscrolls are a bit too tame and the new Krakadrak Chaos Lord made me go „Meh?“, Knights and Varanguard made me go „meh“ very hard...I expected more reliable punch.
However there were some nice changes to the Slaughterbrute, the Mutslith changebeast and marauders. I haven‘t had a look at the chariots since I am personally not interested in them.
the whole army has several ways to grant +1 to wound, hit, +1–3 to charges and Rerolls to armour saves and all hits and wounds, yet it lacks in damage and rend.
it has mortal wound shrugs of 5+ on most units.
summarized weaknesses according ONLY to the warscrolls: A lack of High damage attacks (2+ Dmg) weakness to rend, almost no access to good rend (2+). No Warscroll feels really strong. Too many units can grant similar buffs which makes some abilities redundant (a lot of +1 to hit and wound and rerolls).
summarized strengths: A high volume of attacks with substantial buffs to hit and wound. (+1 mostly but most stats are 3+, 3+ anyway), high armor, mortal wound resistance.
Sidenote: The Warcry warbands haven‘t changed afaik
I am now very interested in what additional rules the Allegiance Abilities will add!

I like how this article isn't really clear whether the warcry warbands can be marked or not, I think actually mentioning whether they can be marked would be quite important...
