I wonder what the situation will be like with the Skaven index and units that are probably getting revamped/changed with the post-Skaventide release wave. Will the index just be missing those units until the battletome releases, or will the old units still be in there for that brief window?

Considering their index will last for 2-3 months, I think it will just miss both old and unreleased minis.

Index PDFs have gone out. People do know things now. That said, can’t say whether the Ogre rumor is accurate or not.

If they will be out the next week around this day, it is normal that influencers have access to all of them already.

Thats true. But still double big releases are not a good idea, especially if there are players who would like to buy both. Buying 2 big boxes is a lot more expensive than 1.

Also, didn't Leviathan get another made to order run? Thats more what I intended, so there is room for that for Skaventide too if necessary.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider dawis a big release. They will sell a lot of stuff, but in terms of numbers probably Warcry will have the same or bigger production.

With the production issues they're having I don't think it's wise for them to do 2 big boxes at once. Especially since Dominion was their best fantasy launch ever, I imagine they'll want to invest even more in Skaventide and not have the production reduced in favour of a non mainline game.

I would say Skaventide has been produced at least a month ago.

Big Ogor rumor from coach discord:

    Some rumours, reliable source

We have access to; Run and charge (multiple sources)
LOS blocking abilities Abilities and spells that improve our control score
    Reducing enemy control score
    Both huskards are priests

FLoSHs are legit, basically exact same profile except; Only a 4+ save +1 damage on charge for spear and horns but not hooves Unstoppable charge on their warscroll Only 360 points
All the big beasts are like 50-100 points cheaper
Mournfang are anti cav, they get rend -2 against them.
Ironguts same basically, kept their fight twice and give nearby tyrants 6++
Slaughtermaster snow get points when units kill stuff and they can be spent to give abilities to units.
Butcher gives run and charge to ogor units within 12” Spell that gives run and charge to a unit, if cast on high roll its reroll runs and charges too.
Tyrants add +1 to mortals if any on the charge. So roll a d3, on a 2+ it’s that many +1.
    Bloodpelt basically the same
    Hunter basically the same
Yhetis move in the enemy move phase and can move into combat.
Frost Sabres same but have max control score of 1.
Maneaters similar profile, but have a 4+ shrug against “non core abilities”
Spell to make terrain obscuring and units get 5++ near them (I’m hazy on this but think it’s right)
Scraplaunchers got either crit mortals or anti infantry rend.
Points for most units around the same; Flosh 360 HOSH 300 Glutts 220 Ironguts 240 Leadbelchers 150 MF 200 Yhetees 120 Ironblasters 240 Scraplaungers 180 Gorger mawpacks 260 Gnoblars 120 FLOTT ~330 iirc Beast riders ~260

Ugh. I read the first phrase and my hopium level went to the moon. I thought it was a rumour about minis :(

I can confidently say that Briar and Bone tomorrow with how they already show off the banner on facebook page before, multiple artwork of it shown off (pic below), AOS 4e is next week so i don't think they want to launch TOW range when an edition is coming up & i think rules were posted in White dwarf as well (someone fact check me)

AoS 4 and Dawis target is not the same, so I would say it is possible.

So, what are the odds looking like for Briar and Bone not going up for preorders again this week and instead it being Dwarfs?

Why not both? I think it will be the case, here's why:

Why Warcry? Because it is featured in the next WD.
Why Dawis? Because Dispossessed are being retired and CM said they will come "shortly".

    So my bet is both.

Skaven are not remotely an outlier, anthropomorphic animals are all over fantasy and ratpeople are represented quite commonly from Nutcracker to The Secret of NHIM rodents and specifically rats are all over the fantasy scene. Of course there are some pretty heinous and disgusting political uses of anthropomorphic rats used to dehumanize various peoples throughout the ages.

The thing that makes Skaven feel unique is their specific role within this fantasy world of an expansive hidden empire with advanced technology combining magic and alchemy. Also the horrendous forms of mutant rats that exist. But overall they still fit into a well established trope of anthropomorphic fantasy army.

I have always found Lizardmen/Seraphon the most unique as they combine elements of Meso-American myth, wacky ancient alien conspiracies and elements of Lovecraft/Lord Dunsany into a strangely heroic but always inhuman faction that fits remarkably well in the Old World and Mortal Realms. I will always see Seraphon as the true enemies of Chaos on its most fundamental existential level. In other words I see the Slaan as opposing the God's of Chaos, with Karl Franz or Sigmar opposing the Archaon and the mortal followers of Chaos.

With that in mind I love both these factions as expressions of how creative approaches can help established fantasy tropes feel fresh and interesting. I think Idoneth hold this potential as someone that grew up in a family of fisher folk with stories of sea folk and tales of sea monsters.

Werent the equivalents from India serpent people? I could see something like that (or almost any animal) appearing in the Mortal Realms.

I'm torn when it comes to "expanding" the setting's factions. Whilst I would like to see more depth given to existing factions and for existing threads to be followed up upon (Tyrion, Malerion, etc) I also can't help but feel a little disappointed that 10 years into AoS we have seen very little in the way completely "new" stuff.

It would be nice to see a completely new, unique AoS faction for each of the Grand Alliances. I'd personally like to see a new Avian themed race over an insect-themed one, but I would take anything.... new.

New is not always equaling better. The worst that can happen, IMO, is that they release something brand new, that leaves the majority of the playerbase cold. That's a lot of time and resources that could be used in current factions.

  11. 7 hours ago, Neverchosen said:

That is fair but remember that there are people that absolutely would collect such an army. I am not sure where I land on the idea as there are so many ways to sculpt such an army. Are they people mutated into insects like in Cronenberg's the Fly, strange humanoid creatures with exoskeletons like in Hallow Knight, or just anthropomorphic insect people like the Micronauts? I play 40k and I don't play Genestealer Cults or Tyranids but my best friend loves both.

I confess I was being a little tongue in cheek, as that is the exact point I was making. I feel like people are drawn to specific tropes and like to see the cool variations that have been developed. Why I made a concentrated point about the various death tropes, as whatever your preferred undead abomination might be GW has you covered.

I would imagine them something like the Ambull. The problem, they look quite like Sylvaneth:

I can think of some more uninspired concepts. Knights in shinging Armour are pretty overdone in fantasy, as are orcs, Goblins, elves, dwarves, wizards and don't even get me started on how over used vampires, zombies, skeletons, wights, revenants, werewolves, ghouls and ghosts are in both fantasy, horror and Gothic romance.

The fun part of age of sigmar is taking familiar tropes and expanding them in imaginative ways. Like people who see Kragnos as just a centuar when instead it is a mythological god beast whose hooves are tied to rumbling in the ground. Or how people want Idoneth to be lovecraftian horrors when currently they feel much closer to legends of mysterious sea peoples that exist throughout history and told in the tall tales of my fisher folk relatives.

In other words I love AOS as the armies feel like heavily mythologized versions of traditional fantasy tropes.

I think it is the other way around.

Precisely, as those concepts are pretty common, they are the ones that are more appealing to the broader audience.

Talking about lore, we have that wrap-up article we've been discussing :

    https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/06/14/discover-what-went-down-in-the-dawnbringers-series-before-the-skaventide-washes-us-all-away/

But in White Dwarf 501, there are Ark Arcana and an excellent short story (The Ravening, last of the Dawnbringer Chronicles) about in-universe Vermindoom points of view, hugely recommend it !!

Also, a more complete wrap-up is presented by Phil Kelly in the World of Warhammer section, reviewing the Era of the Beast (honestly @KingBrodd it was really interesting and convincing, talking about Thondia, the Gnarlwood in Warcry and Underworlds, and the various beastly kits released during 3rd edition : it was a quite thematic edition after all!).

And as an aside I'd like to share the Realms of Ruin soundtrack, it's quite nice for painting and gaming (also on Spotify) :

It is a shame about Realms of Ruin because it is a really good game in terms of quality in many aspects.

It is so odd to me as Destruction are the best GA to explore the narrative implications of the Manifest Destiny style imperialism of the Dawnbringers. Chaos tribes are great but narratively the further you move towards the gods the more an individual looses themselves to them.

But show the Crusades impacting Ogor Hunting Grounds, show the impact of the crusades on Gitz trying to follow the Badmoon to be stopped by an impassable wall of shields. Have the Ironjawz and Kruel Boyz try to overthrow these advances for the sake of overthrowing society. Also just set up a city and have a gargant kick it over for the sake of it.

I've seen suggestions here and there about Destro humans, but are they not a bit the Darkoaths? If you remove the Chaos gods part they are basically Destro humans. I think that's one of the biggest problems for Destro narratives.

Yknow I remember well the rumors he was supposed to be a BoC model that got switched to Destruction last minute for “unknown reasons”.

I really wouldn’t surprised if the reasons for that happened to be 3e post production rolling into conflict with ToW pre-production and they realized they’d be dropping BoC from AoS by the following edition and needed to pivot what to do with the new kit they’d just ordered a hundred thousand of from manufacturing.

Those rumours were discarded by sources that don't get their income from the views.

Kinda wild to have your main headliner character for an entire edition be imprisoned offscreen and we're supposed to find out about it in a lore rundown article.

Kragnos must have suffered a very sudden course correction in the early stages of aos 3.0, and I believe it is in part due to the community backlash of him not really fitting in aesthetically with any other destruction faction, and just due to the fact that GW are quite bad at portraying the destruction factions with any real depth and agency.

The way that they more or less confirm that the Drogrukh are still out there somewhere and Kragnos has been put on an icey cliffhanger, I foresee that he will return in about 5 years with a Drogrukh faction that he will fit into seemlessly.

Chorfs in around two years. Kragnos and the Gang in around 5 years.
